TwitterCrap

After much badgering I thought that I would give twitter a go and see what all the fuss is about. I created an account ages ago but have not bothered doing anything with it (and will probably continue not to).

The only problem with this is that I have gone into my account and tried to update a few things, and I am not kidding when I say that every request either didnt complete by just timing out or I got some dodgy “Technical Error” page from them. How shit is that! I thought that they were meant to have sorted these issues out? It can be done I am sure and its about time that they sent in some proper engineers who know what they are doing and sort it out if they hope to get anywhere and start earning some money. It wont be long before Facebook are at their heels and compete with them considering they have just turned down a takeover offer. I know that Facebook also suffers technical problems but so far in my experience no where near the amount with twitter.

I also put a little update javascript thing in my side bar but it only loads in every other page request. It doesnt interfere my page loading because I put the JS at the bottom of the page (I know why they recommend this now) so I will leave it in for now hoping that it at least gets a little better. Not very impressed so far – not at all.

Christmas Is Almost Here

It has been ages since I posted and that has been mainly because I have been feeling like crap and have not been that bothered with anything as-of-late. But Christmas is pretty much here and I am going back home to England (and there to stay for the foreseeable future) which is great and means that I can get back into the flow of things again, which I am looking forward to greatly. It will be nice to catch up with a lot of friends I have not seen for a while. But with happiness comes gloom as a lot of people that I know have lost their jobs due the current financial crisis and unless they are all lucky enough to get something sorted fast (well done to Ian) they may not be having as happy a Christmas as they may have hoped for. So good luck to you people.

Not much has been happening personally but at work I am back on development on FusionAnalytics which is going to be great product when it is finished. It is already generating quite a lot of buzz from the shows that it has been presented at. The amount of people who have asked for this product is amazing considering we have only demo’d it a couple of times and thats only with the current feature set. It wont be finished by the time I get back so it looks like my first months back in England will be adding the final touches to get it finished for release and then onto some other cool products.

My own project (SmellBeautiful.co.uk) has been ready for ages now, but since I have been over here in Germany it has had to sit around growing some moss. When I get back I plan to spruce it up a little more and add some more ecommerce features that I have had in mind for a while, fill in the inventory of products (which, trust me, is the most boring part) and then finally release it. The good thing is that I dont really need this site to be a massive success or anything, it is mainly a very useful experiment to see how best to run an online store and try out some new ideas I have had for online marketing, advertising and promotion etc with the aim of creating an application (at some time) that companies will be able to use for their own stores. But I see that far far down the line at the moment because I have far too much to do. I also still need to make a full recovery from my bad neck/nerve problems which has still not completely gone away yet. I believe I will be feeling much better in a couple of months and will be going full steam ahead once again for the new year!

Oh yeah as a final note I have just purchased a PlayStation 3 (which I wont get until I get back to England) as a present to myself for my Birthday and Christmas. As you can imagine I am looking forward to playing with it around Christmas to keep that inevitable boredom at bay. I got it from Play.com for an amazing price, so if you are looking at or thinking of buying a PS3 then take a look there. A PS3 80GB costs GBP289.99 on its own and I got a package that consists of a PS3 80GB + Far Cry 2 (Steelbox edition) + Little Big Planet + 300 (Bluray movie) + Official Sony Bluray remote all for GBP289.99 – The same price as on its own. How good is that!
